Building Resilient Urban Slum Settlements in Dhaka (Phase VI)
Since July 2022, with the support of Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the project has focused on building climate-resilient urban slum communities in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with the aim of mitigating the devastating effects of climate change. As frequent floods and rising temperatures threaten informal settlements, the initiative integrates sustainable housing, women empowerment, and inclusive infrastructure for individuals with disabilities to address the growing challenges.

So far, 71 homes have been upgraded with eco-friendly materials, improving the ability of these households to withstand extreme weather conditions such as heavy rains and high winds. This has directly impacted 710 individuals, enhancing their safety and reducing vulnerability to climate-induced disasters.
Moreover, infrastructure for individuals with disabilities has been upgraded to ensure their safety and mobility, fostering a more inclusive community that is better equipped to respond to emergencies. Disaster preparedness training for 200 slum residents has further strengthened the community’s resilience, enabling them to act quickly and effectively during crises.

By directly impacting over 5,000 people, this project is a key step toward creating a safer, more sustainable future, with a clear focus on climate resilience, women’s leadership, urban development and inclusive disaster mitigation.
